Now that Alachua County has officially placed the transportation sales tax referendum on the November ballot, the local government is focusing on educating the public about the proposal.

The initiative, known as Moving Alachua County Forward, would institute an eight-year, 1-cent sales tax to fund various transportation projects, including road resurfacing, if voters approve it this fall.

Locals who are still trying to decide whether to vote for the tax can check out the Facebook page the county has set up for Moving Alachua County Forward, which will offer information and updates on the initiative. The page has garnered around 250 likes so far.

The county will be launching a website soon as well, Communications and Legislative Affairs Coordinator Mark Sexton told The Sun.

Also, here is the county’s list of road projects for the sales tax initiative, and here is its list of bicycle and pedestrian projects.
