If you’re interested in getting a better idea of where this year’s Alachua County Commission candidates stand on matters like economic development and Plum Creek’s Envision Alachua proposal, check out the questionnaires with each of the candidates the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce has posted online.

The chamber also posted a scorecard online showing the candidate’s responses regarding three issues: the 1-cent transportation sales tax initiative that will appear on November’s ballot, Plum Creek’s proposed sector plan, and the West38 Conference Center project.

Only John Martin, the Republican candidate for the District 4 race, opposed the sales tax referendum, according to the scorecard, which uses thumbs-up and thumbs-down symbols to signify the candidates’ stances on each issue.

Martin and Kevin Thorpe, one of the Democratic candidates for District 4, were the only ones in support of Plum Creek’s sector plan, while incumbent Commissioner Lee Pinkoson didn’t provide a response on that topic. Thorpe was the only candidate to give a thumbs-up to the conference center project.
