Swing by downtown Gainesville this weekend to see an internationally renowned artist in action.
Italian urban muralist 2501 already is at work transforming the look of the :08 Seconds building at 201 W. University Ave. as part of a project that is being coordinated by the city of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department.
The muralist’s given name is Jacopo Ceccarelli — a man whose works, according to a city news release, dive “into the essence of line art through his use of monochromatic color schemes that emphasize his technique.” He is expected to finish painting the :08 Seconds building by Sunday.
Murals by 2501 can be found throughout the world, from countries like Mongolia, Tunisia and Brazil to major cities like London, Moscow and Paris, according to the news release. Other American cities like Baltimore, Los Angeles and Miami also boast murals from 2501. A video documenting the process of painting at :08 Seconds will be shown this December at the Art Basel international art fair in Miami Beach.
Iryna Kanishcheva has photographed urban murals across the globe and recruited 2501 to come to Gainesville. VisitGainesville, Nautilus Realty and the Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency are sponsoring this project, which the Gainesville-Alachua County Art in Public Places Trust is overseeing.
