The city of Gainesville is considering making part of northwest Gainesville a new Community Redevelopment Area, and on June 25 the public will have a chance to learn more about this process during an informational meeting.
To address blight as well as other issues, local governments can create CRAs. Tindale-Oliver and Associates was hired by the city to do a study aimed at determining whether this particular section of town meets the state-mandated criteria necessary to be designated a CRA, according to a city news release. The firm has completed that study, which will be discussed during the upcoming meeting.
The part of town being eyed as a possible CRA includes the Northwest Sixth Street and Northwest 13th Street corridors from where they intersect south to around Northwest 16th Avenue. The Koppers Superfund site, Winn Dixie shopping center and the city’s Public Works Complex also fall within the study area.
The upcoming public meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. June 25 at the Public Works Complex (405 NW 39th Ave., Building D). For more information, contact Project Manager John Wachtel at wachteljs@cityofgainesville.org or 352-393-8565.
