The city of Gainesville has a busy schedule lined up for next week, with not only its usual biweekly regular meeting on Thursday but a big meeting Wednesday evening on the hot-off-the-presses investigative review of Gainesville Regional Utilities and its involvement with the local biomass plant.

Plus, to top it all off, the city’s runoff election for the District 1 and At-Large Seat 1 races is on Tuesday, so local voters have some city business to attend to themselves on Election Day as they decide who they want to be in office for the next three years.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect at the City Commission’s meetings next week.

The commissioners will meet Wednesday at 5 p.m. to hear from representatives of Navigant Consulting, which conducted the investigative review of GRU, and to discuss the report’s findings and recommendations. For details on the report’s major findings and to take a gander at it yourself, check out our story on the subject.

As for Thursday’s City Commission meeting, which starts at 1 p.m. and should reconvene around 5:30 p.m. after a dinner break, major items on the agenda include a proposed major update to the city’s Land Development Code and associated zoning changes. The City Commission has yet to vote on this proposed update, having continued the item during a recent meeting. For more details, check out the agenda and backup materials.
