The Gainesville City Commission is in the midst of meetings for the upcoming fiscal year’s budget. The commissioners will convene for several such meetings at City Hall in the next two weeks on a variety of budget-related issues.
Here’s a basic rundown of their schedule:
Monday, July 14: 10 a.m., GRU budget discussion
Tuesday, July 15: 9 a.m., Advisory board budget and general government budget discussion
Wednesday, July 16: 2 p.m., Scheduled to adopt preliminary fire assessment rate
Tuesday, July 22: 9 a.m., General budget discussion
Wednesday, July 23: 1 p.m., Scheduled to adopt tentative fiscal year 2015 budgets and set the tentative property tax rate

After the budgetary meetings in July, TRIM (truth in millage) notices will be sent to property owners in August with information on the property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year.
The city will then hold a pair of public hearings in September regarding the proposed budget for fiscal year 2015. The budget will be finalized and officially adopted that month in advance of the start of the new fiscal year, which begins October 1.
