For those of you who aren’t constantly checking the city of Gainesville’s website for updates on the upcoming meetings and their agendas like I am, here’s a rundown of what the Gainesville City Commission will be up to next week.
There is a regular meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday that has a busy agenda, with a discussion on possibly returning to a five-member board among the items up for consideration.
Another issue that has been debated over the past couple of months is whether or not the city should return to a five-day work week, which is up for discussion Thursday as well. The commission will be voting on its proposed general government budget for next fiscal year in September, so if a significant schedule change is OKed the budget will need to be amended relatively quickly.
Other items on the agenda include a follow-up on Northwest Eighth Avenue as well as a new vehicle-for-hire ordinance that is aimed at regulating ride-sharing services like Uber and traditional taxicab companies within the same measure. City Lot 10, which is being considered as the possible site of a new 12-story hotel, also will be up for discussion along with related parking concerns.
Aside from Thursday’s regular meeting, the City Commission will meet with the Alachua County School Board Tuesday at 1 p.m. to discuss school resource officers and the Reichert House, among other issues. The city commissioners will also convene Monday at 3 p.m., seated as the Community Redevelopment Agency board, to discuss various issues related to the city’s four existing community redevelopment areas.
