City budget development process rolling along

The Gainesville City Commission has spent many hours this month reviewing and debating the budget proposals for next fiscal year, and on Monday the board is slated to OK a tentative general government budget. For citizens who want to weigh in on whether the city government should return to a five-day work week or who wish to advocate for certain programs to be funded, Monday is the next chance they’ll have to tell the commissioners how they feel face-to-face.

Once the commission has approved a tentative general government budget, that proposal as well as the tentative GRU budget the commissioners already have approved will come back for final approval in September.

The commission will meet Monday at 5 p.m. to discuss the general government budget at City Hall. In the meantime, citizens can brush up on the city budget process online and take a look at the initial budget proposal to see what was and wasn’t recommended for funding.

Folks can also peruse GRU’s budget documents and presentations here.
