The city of Gainesville has hired a firm to do a study looking into whether a particular section of northwest Gainesville that includes the Koppers Superfund site meets the state-required criteria necessary to become a Community Redevelopment Agency area.
The firm, Tindale-Oliver and Associates, is holding a public meeting Wednesday evening to present the preliminary findings and talk about the CRA process, according to a city news release. Interested citizens are invited to come and take part in the discussion.
The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the training room of the city’s Public Works Complex at 405 NW 39th Ave. (Building D). For more information, people can contact the city project manager, John Wachtel, at 352-393-8565 or by email at wachteljs@cityofgainesville.org.
The study area being considered includes the Northwest Sixth Street and Northwest 13th Street corridors from where they intersect and extends south to around Northwest 16th Avenue. It encompasses the Koppers site, the Public Works Complex, Gainesville High School, Stephen Foster Elementary School and nearby shopping centers.
