County Commissioner Lee Pinkoson, who is up for reelection this November against write-in candidate and Green Party of Florida member Harry Patterson, apparently has a new opponent: Write-in candidate Mozzerella T. Beagle of the Beagletarian Party.

This ambitious beagle has apparently announced his candidacy for Pinkoson’s District 2 seat on the County Commission, according to his campaign press release. The founder of the newly minted Beagletarian Party, Mozzerella “doesn’t concentrate on the same issues as those other parties do — and dupe voters with unrealistic promises.”

He’s even got a Facebook page.

Instead, this 35-pound beagle has adopted a simple campaign slogan: “One leg up on the competition.”

He’s responsible for the “fertilization” of several county lawns, showing off his environmental side, and has held the title of Cleanest Dog in Alachua County for two years straight, according to his press release.

He also shares his home — generously — with nearly a dozen cats and humans.

As for Mozzerella T. Beagle’s policy stances, he applauds the county’s no-kill animal shelters and recommends knocking down the County Commission’s office and making that space a dog park as well as putting K-9s in charge of all of the units.

He also promises to return any salary that’s proposed to the taxpayers.

For those wondering if this dog is running a legitimate campaign, his press release does list a headquarters on West University Avenue for the Beagletarian Party and other contact information.
