Some residents of the Turkey Creek Golf and Country Club have expressed concerns  to city and county officials about the noise from the biomass plant.

Here is an email one resident, Russ Pisano, sent to City Commissioner Todd Chase:

“Commissioner Chase, I met you at Eddie Bells fish fry. I live in Turkey Creek and am aware of your oppositions to the biomass plant. Now you can add another item to the list of negative factors it represents. Myself and other neighbors have been shut out of our bedrooms at night due to the extreme noise coming from the plant. It is similar to being on an aircraft carrier during operations.  We are working on gathering opposition due to its effect on the tranquility of Turkey Creek, violation of the County noise ordinance, and negative effect on values in our neighborhood. We are trying involve the EPA if possible. Even though TC residents are not your constituents, we would appreciate your help in dealing with this issue. I am coping {sic} Mayor Ed Braddy. As a registered Republican, I can assure you we support yours and his views. ”

Gainesville Renewable Energy Center has responded by sending a contractor with a decibel measuring equipment across US 441 to  Turkey Creek to take noise measurements. Here is an email from GREC project administrator Karin Hyler to Kathy Viehe, the GRU assistant general manager for customer support services:

“Hi Kathy,
I have already spoken with Mr. Pisano and several of his neighbors when the noise issue was first brought to our attention last Wed, August 21.  As you know, we are in the commissioning/start-up phase and some equipment is running for the first time.  GREC is conducting a noise study at Turkey Creek and the area, and Fagen, Inc. is monitoring noise at the site.   I have apologized to those who have contacted me and assured them that we take the issue very seriously.  We will comply with the applicable noise ordinance(s).”
